About Nikelle Khan
Nikelle Khan started her journey with dance through the art of fire dancing. After travelling the world and performing with fire she wanted to create a style of dance fusion incorporating the elements of fire and ethnic dances. In 2004 she became inspired by Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, enjoying its freedom with movement. This brought an understanding of her own blockages within her body and the potential of dance as a tool for healing. While spending many years in India, she became intrigued by Odissi dance, an ancient temple dance originating in the Temples of Orissa in East India. Odissi dance is taught as a means of worship and personal surrender and she loved the sense of disipline, devotion and loss of ego. Through dance, surrender and devotion you begin to feel a force so divine and pure with no limitations, embracing a beautiful dreamtime through movement. Dance has been Nikelle's greatest teacher and healer, unlocking infinite layers in the mind and body and fine-tuning intricate levels of perception. Having a huge curiousity for other ethnic dance styles, she has also trained in Balinese dance and Balinese mask dance. Khan is now creating a fuison with theatre, Tribal Belly dance, Odissi and Balinese dance.Nikelle has performed throughout Turkey, Israel, Japan, America, India, Indonesia and Australia. Her fusion dance has inspired and gathered attention performing at the popular luxury destinations, Ku de ta and Ocean Beach Club, in Bali and Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza. She has made many appearances at the famous annual Rainbow Serpent Festival in Victoria, Australia and as one of the opening acts at Boom Festival in Portugal. She also has performed at the Temple Dance Festival in Pushkar, India and at Bali Spirit Festival in Ubud, Bali. Currently based in Bali, Indonesia, Nikelle has studied with Putu Evie Suyadnyani at Mekar Bhuana, a school committed to preserving age-old traditions of Balinese gamelan and dance. She is also working on a new project called Heyoka Dreaming - a small communal project incorporating oriental dancers, musicans and visionary artists. As Heyoka is the spiritual clown or jester, who acts as a mirror and a teacher through laughter, dance, and dreaming, Nikelle hopes to inspire others on a personal journey using dance to awaken and celebrate that which is within. Nikelle is available for classes, workshops, retreats, and private events. In addition to teaching and performing, she also does performance choreography, costume design, and has a small line dance accessories. Please contact Nikelle for bookings and more information. "The Dancer of the future will be one whose body and soul have grown so harmoniously together that the natural language of that soul will have become the movement of the human body, the dancer will not belong to any nation but all of humanity." - ISADOR DUNCANN
